Configure Google Apps Email Account on Entourage 2008 for Mac

Applies to:
 Users wishing to configure Entourage 2008 to receive email from Google Apps account.

Note that Entourage 2008 currently does not support direct syncing of Google calendar or contacts. Users may gain these features by installing Google's Mac Sync Tools (unsupported).

 

To configure Entourage 2008:

  1. Open the Tools menu and select Accounts.

  2. In the Accounts window, click on the New icon and select Mail from the drop-down menu.

  3. New Account window will appear. For Account type, choose IMAP,  then click OK.

  4. In the Edit Account window, enter the following information:
    • Account name: Description of the account (example: TOAST.net account)
    • Name: Your real name. 
    • Email Address: Your complete email address.
    • Account ID: Your complete email address.
    • IMAP server: imap.gmail.com
    • Password: Your email password. Checkmark Save password in my MAC OS Keychain.
    • SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
    • Select Click here for advanced receiving options when complete.

  5. Enter the following information:
    • This IMAP service requires a secure connection (SSL): Checked
    • Override default IMAP port: Checked - 993
    • Always use secure password: Unchecked
    • Select Click here for advanced sending options when complete

  6. Enter the following information:
    • SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL): Checked
    • Override default SMTP port: Checked - 465
    • SMTP server requires authentication: Checked
    • Use same settings as receiving mail server: Selected
    • Click OK when complete.

  7. The Accounts window will appear again. Click the red "close" circle in the upper left hand corner to close the window. Your account is now configured for Entourage 2008.
